Salesforce Summer 23 Update - Block Emails Sent from Unverified Email Addresses in the Guest User Record

To improve security standards, Salesforce is blocking any emails sent from an unverified email address in the guest user record, starting with the Summer ’23 major release.

If you have custom implementations with Apex or flows that use emails sent from guest user records, you may need to make some changes to the guest user record to continue sending emails.

Salesforce in this article suggest two options:

  • Use a default organization-wide email address.  When creating or editing the org-wide email address, select the Allow All Profiles to Use this From Address option.  Assign the org-wide email address to the guest user record. If your org has multiple verified email addresses with the Allow All Profiles to Use this From Address option enabled, select one to use for the guest user record’s email field.
  • Use any email address that you can verify internally as being publicly accessible..  Add the email address to the Email field of the guest user record, and Save.

From Setup>Release Updates, enable this update in Sandbox and complete the steps provided.  We recommend a quick sanity test of any custom functionality that sends emails from the guest user to confirm they can be sent and received.

Salesforce also suggests that customers contact Salesforce Customer Support if you’re still having trouble sending emails from the guest user record after enabling this update and taking the necessary steps to update the guest user email address.
