In some situations it might be useful that you change the Owner of a record. If it is a hand full of records then this can be done easily by hand.
In the situation you have a significant number of records that need to be transfered to a new Owner, then doing this manually this is time consuming.
Then it might be useful to consider the option of Mass Transfer Records, a standard Salesforce functionality. This can only be done via the System Administrator profile.
Tip: Before you use the Mass Transfer functionality; test this first with a select number of records to make sure your transfer works correctly.
This can be done to add extra criteria to your Transfer. After that, when it all works fine, then perform you Transfer again with less criteria to increase the scope of your Transfer.
