ACTION REQUIRED: Prepare for the CS7, CS9, CS10, and CS11 Sandbox Migration

As an admin of a Salesforce Sandbox org on the CS7, CS9, CS10, and CS1 instance, we would like to notify you of an upcoming instance refresh maintenance.

In order to prepare for your organization’s continued growth, Salesforce occasionally needs to perform an activity, called an instance refresh, where they upgrade the infrastructure supporting your instance in their data centers. This will enable Salesforce to continue to provide your organization with the same levels of performance.

Following this maintenance, your instance will move to another data center and the name of your instance will change. Salesforce will inform you of your instance’s new name.

Do I need to take action?

We have reviewed the information provided by Salesforce and have come to the conclusion that you only need to take action if you retrieve data like jobs, campus events and contacts via the webservice as described in this article.

The endpoint you currently use to retrieve the data via the webservice, will probably refer to the new instance. Since this name will change, you need to change the endpoint.

Getting the correct end-point

The new instance name (which is not known yet) after the refresh has been completed. However, you can and probably should use the custom domain that applies to your org. See this article on setting up a domain if this is not yet set up for your org.

You can find the custom Salesforce domain in Salesforce Set-up under Domain Management. See this picture:

The custom domain looks like this in most cases: "connexys-<4 numbers>". The soap address will then look like this:

<soap:address location=""/>

The advantage of pointing the soap address to your custom domain is that in case of a future instance refresh or org move to another instance there will be no impact on your interfaces.

See below the original Salesfore information.

As an admin of a Salesforce org with at least one sandbox currently on CS7, CS9, CS10, and/or CS11, we want to inform you of an upcoming maintenance that involves moving the CS7, CS9, CS10, and CS11 instances to another data center within the United States.

In order to provide exceptional performance, availability and reliability of our service, we occasionally need to perform a capacity planning activity, called a sandbox migration, where we move all customers on an existing Salesforce sandbox instance onto new infrastructure. Following the CS7, CS9, CS10 and CS11 sandbox migrations, these instances will be served from new infrastructure located in another data center within the United States.
What action do I need to take?
If your corporate network settings or email security filters restrict access to IP ranges or data centers, please ensure that you are including the current Salesforce IP ranges. If you continue to restrict access to certain IP ranges or data centers, users may be unable to access the sandbox following the migration. We made updates to our IP ranges in January 2017.
When will the sandbox migrations occur?
The CS7, CS9, CS10, and CS11 sandbox migrations will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. PDT on Saturday, March 18, 2017. During the maintenance, your sandbox(es) will be available in read-only mode.

NOTE: If you refresh your sandbox between now and March 18, 2017, there is a chance your new sandbox copy may still be placed on a migrating sandbox instance.
How can I get more information?
